If you are looking for an adventurous trip this side of the country is considered one of the most unexplored regions of Costa Rica. The South Pacific Zone extends from the Barú River to the borders of Panamá, and from the Talamanca’s mountains to the Pacific Coast. Their exuberant flora and fauna, mangroves, rivers, lakes, high humid forests, cloud forest of low altitude plus forty six kilometers of sandy coast coexist together in the Southern Zone.
The weather is hot and humid on the coast, plain lands and valleys. The higher lands have cooler temperatures, due, mostly, to the clouds than to the altitude. A trip by land to this zone takes around eight hours from San Jose. Two airports in this area facilitate the communications; one of them is in Puerto Jiménez and the other is in Quepos.
